Mas Amiel Origine 2017
Varieties: Grenache (from old vines more than a century in age), Carignan, Syrah
Region: Maury, Roussillon
Maturation: 2 years in large oak casks
From the ancient lands of the Cathars, in a valley of hard ground, chiselled between the Massif des Corbières and the Pyrenees ranges.

Colour: Deep garnet in colour with a dense core.
Bouquet: The wine exhibits complex aromas of black fruits, dark plum, olive tapenade, cola, liquorice, dried herbs, pan spices, axle grease, and graphite. Complex and brooding, a wine that stares into you and asks questions of the imbiber.
Palate: Full-bodied and dry, with attractive, dense, and complex fruit notes of plum, black cherry, and black olive, complemented by finely ground pepper, mixed peel, and fruit mince spices. This leads to a savoury finish with fine, drying tannins.

A take-no-prisoners kind of wine that is not for the faint-hearted, there is much to discover and enjoy here, big, bold, dry, and complex. It has much to offer those seeking truth, poetry, and philosophy in their wine. A wine to sit and commune with, or pair it with rare beef, roast lamb, wild boar, goat, or venison.
Drinking beautifully at eight years on and still with plenty of time on its hands. I just love wines that speak to me, and this one spoke in runes that took patience, time, and immense pleasure to unravel and enjoy. 96/100
